Wentworth, NC ( January 3, 2023) – The Board of Rockingham County Commissioners is saddened to hear the passing of former County Commissioner C. Zane Cardwell. Chairman Charlie Hall and the Board sends their heartfelt prayers and condolences to the Cardwell Family.
The citizens of Rockingham County elected C. Zane Cardwell to the Board of County Commissioners in November of 2012. During his four-year term, Cardwell worked to improve many areas of county government including fiscal responsibility, transportation planning, wildlife conservation and economic development.
Cardwell served as a Commissioner representative on several boards including the Piedmont Authority for Regional Transportation, Piedmont Triad Regional Council Board of Delegates, Piedmont Triad Regional Council Rural Planning Organization, Piedmont Triad Regional Council Transportation Advisory Committee, the Library Board of Trustees and the Hunting and Wildlife Advisory Committee.
“Zane cared a great deal for this community which was evident not only in his public service on the Board of Commissioners but also in his private life.” County Manager Lance Metzler stated. “He was loved by many people. I will be praying for his wife Amanda, their family and his friends during this difficult time”
In his personal life, C. Zane Cardwell was a part of the private workforce but served his community as both a member of the Northwest Rockingham Fire Department and volunteered his time as a tutor for Stoneville Elementary School.
C. Zane Cardwell served on the Board of Rockingham County Commissioners from 2012 until 2016.
